Role
Execute discipline front end and detailed design input to engineering projects. Execute technical support studies as requested. Provide engineering support to the construction / commissioning phases as necessary. Provide engineering support to maintenance and operations as requested.

He/she shall report to relevant discipline head. Provide leave relief as appropriate.

Qualification : Degree in discipline specific engineering (B.Sc./M.Sc./B.Eng.). Senior / Engineers shall have membership of an internationally accepted applicable professional institute.

Experience
For Senior Engineers, a minimum of 12 years oil & gas engineering experience (of which 5 years upstream). Experience in conceptual, front end and detailed design required (minimum 10 years experience in an engineering design company). Fully conversant with relevant international standards. Experience with Company and/or Shell Group projects and standards (SPs and DEPs) is strongly preferred. Field experience in construction & commissioning strongly preferred.

For Engineers, a minimum 8 years oil & gas engineering experience. Experience in front end, detailed design required (minimum 6 years experience in an engineering design

company). Conversant with relevant international standards. Experience with Company and/or Shell Group projects and standards (SPs and DEPs) is strongly preferred. Field experience in construction & commissioning strongly preferred.

For Omani engineers, a minimum 1 year oil & gas engineering experience in the engineering design company. Participant in an accredited international monitored professional development programme. In the event of not finding suitable candidates, expatriates may be considered. A minimum 3 years oil & gas engineering experience in the engineering design company. Appreciation of relevant international standards required.

General
Fluent spoken and written English. PC literate

Specific
In support of Company, appointee will conduct protection studies for new projects leading to setting recommendations for unit and non-unit type systems. Protection integrity is seen as key to minimizing outages and unscheduled oil deferment. Additional activities will include fault analysis and changes to settings for faults on the existing systems and development of Company protection standards, including latest technologies in the protection field.

Degree in electrical engineering (M.Sc. preferred) and membership of internationally accepted applicable professional institute.

Minimum of 15 years experience in power systems field with 8 years as a senior protection engineer on power generation and HV substations, transmission systems and motor protection. Appointee will be able to demonstrate specialist knowledge on all aspects of protection systems and studies.

Due to extensive use of European standards, must have proven successful experience for large European utility company or design consultant with facilities built in UK/Europe to UK/European standards.

Full familiarity with EDSA power system analysis software is strongly preferred.

Full working knowledge of protection co-ordination studies through EDSA or similar software is required.

Experience in protection system calculations for large interconnected systems of utilities covering generation, transmission and distribution is required.

Determine optimal protection systems and settings on all infrastructure power station and transmission/substation projects, including oil, gas and water projects.

Co-ordinate analysis and determine optimal protection settings on all infrastructure power station and transmission/substation facilities, including OIL AND GAS DIRECTORATES oil, gas and water facilities following outages caused by incorrect relay tripping.

Carry out system modeling simulations to determine maximum, minimum fault currents and critical
operating time for the protection systems and carry out protection co-ordination.
Determine settings for unit protections and for generators, transformers, cables.
Determine settings for line and bus bar protections up to 132kV or higher.

Principal Accountabilities
Provide detailed engineering input during all design phases, including interpretation and challenge of standards.
Actively communicate with other disciplines to optimize areas of interface, during the design development, review and check processes.
Support design/drawing office personnel with specialist engineering input.
Prepare requisitions and technical evaluation of bids for discipline material and equipment sourcing. Ensure equipment Vendors provide timely and quality input into design packages. Review all third party discipline design work.

Ensure design packages meet the relevant safety, environmental and ergonomic standards.
Understand the contract quality management system and ensure these requirements are met.
Participate in and sometimes lead, discipline design reviews.
Senior Engineers: act as lead discipline engineer for specific projects, managing discipline design teams of designers and engineers. Stand in for discipline head as appropriate.
Senior Engineers: actively train and encourage the development of Omani staff to fulfil process and systems engineering roles.
